Tell you signs of hemolytic anemia

Hemolytic anemia is also known as hemolytic anemia. Symptoms depend on the type and severity of the disease. Mild patients often have no symptoms. More severe hemolytic anemia can cause more serious symptoms.

General symptoms of anemia

The most common symptom of all types of anemia is fatigue. Fatigue occurs because your body doesn't have enough red blood cells to carry oxygen to its various parts.

Low red blood cells can also cause shortness of breath, dizziness, headache, cold hands and feet, pale skin, and chest pain.

A lack of red blood cells causes your heart to work harder to transport oxygen-rich blood throughout your body. This can lead to arrhythmias (irregular heartbeats), heart murmurs, enlarged hearts, or even heart failure.

Characteristic signs and symptoms of hemolytic anemia

Besides the general signs of anemia, you need to pay attention and see your doctor right away if you have the following symptoms that indicate that you may have hemolytic anemia:

Jaundice: Jaundice refers to the yellow color of the skin or the whites of the eyes. When red blood cells die, they release hemoglobin in the blood. The hemoglobin is broken down into a compound called bilirubin, which gives the skin and eyes their yellow color. Bilirubin also makes urine dark yellow or brown.

Pain in the upper abdomen: Gallstones or an enlarged spleen can cause pain in the upper abdomen. High levels of bilirubin and cholesterol (from the breakdown of red blood cells) can form stones in the gallbladder. The stones can be painful. The spleen is an organ in the abdomen that helps fight infections and filters out old or damaged blood cells. In hemolytic anemia, the spleen can enlarge and cause pain.

Leg ulcers and pain: In people with sickle cell anemia, sickle cells can clog small blood vessels and block the flow of blood. This can cause sores in the legs and pain all over the body.

Serious reaction to a blood transfusion: You could develop hemolytic anemia from a blood transfusion. This can happen if your blood type is different from your own.

Signs and symptoms of a severe reaction to a blood transfusion include fever, chills, low blood pressure, and shock (shock is a life-threatening condition that occurs when the body doesn't get enough blood flow).

In addition, less common signs and symptoms in hemolytic patients include: Heart murmur, tachycardia, splenomegaly, and hepatomegaly.

Hemolytic anemia can be inherited (also called hereditary anemia, hemolytic anemia, or thalassemia) or acquired during life. If it is congenital, most patients need lifelong treatment, but if it is caused by other causes, it can be cured if the right regimen is followed.
