1. What is a beard?

A beard is a type of stiff hair that grows above the upper lip, below the chin, or along the sides (sideburns) of the body extending down to the cheeks.

Beards are common in men, although they can also be seen in women occasionally. The part of the beard that grows above the lips is called the mustache. In women, the most common is the mustache. A lesser number in women have chin beard. Gradually, beards were seen as a male feature.

Beards are considered a male feature

In women with Hirsutism, those women may grow a beard on their face. This is a condition where hormones spike. Thereby, the amount of hair and hair is stimulated to grow thick and dense in women.

2. The beard "evolution" in humans

Beards are seen as a secondary sexual trait because they are unique to one sex. However, they do not play a direct role in reproduction.

The inheritance of beards is due to genes present on both the Y chromosome and the autosome. However, the genes that maintain the responsiveness of beard expression are usually located on the Y chromosome. It is closely related to male hormone levels.

Some cultures view male beards as a role in sexual attraction. A part of women find men with beautiful, healthy beards more attractive than men without beards.

There are a number of psychological explanations that: people with beards look more mature, more mature than a smooth face. Beard existence is a sign of maturity and dominance.

3. The difference between human beards

There is no "standard" beard morphology in humans. However, some races have certain beard characteristics.

  • Asian ethnic groups such as China, Vietnam, Korea and Japan often have "modest" beards. Mainly beard and moustache. Very few people have beards. The beard of people of this race is usually long, sparse, rarely curly.
  • The races of Indian, West Asian and European descent are mostly bearded, some are very thick and curly. The beards of people of European descent are as varied as their hair color. They can be platinum, maroon, yellow, orange, etc.
  • The African races have beards and beards. However, their beard parts are relatively short and curly. They form curls at the chin.

The genetics of the beard also depends on race. If the father does not have a beard, the son born with a beard will rarely have a beard. If the father has a beard, thick hair on his limbs, then the sons born often inherit this genetic trait.

3. How to have a beautiful beard

The first thing you need is a "dad" with a nice beard. It may sound a bit sad for men with less bearded fathers, but genetics affects 90% of your beard.

If you have "missed" your destiny, you were born without a choice, you can also ask for the help of beard growth drugs. Here are some ways to help you own a beautiful and attractive beard.

Shave regularly until the beard grows evenly

  • Stop growing beard or never shave adversely affect beard growth. This habit causes the beard to grow patchy, uneven and sparse.
  • If your beard doesn't grow evenly around your face, shave regularly. Try to be patient until the beard grows evenly.
  • If you're not sure how your beard will grow, shave your entire face, find the stubble, and pull them out.
  • The rate of beard growth on the chin, on the edge and on the cheeks and under the neck can be different. You can notice the rate of beard growth in each area, from which you can plan to shave or pluck periodically.

Increase Testosterone Levels to Accelerate Beard Growth

  • Beards begin to grow in males during puberty. This is a manifestation of the hair follicles under the rise of male sex hormones.
  • There are a few simple things you can do to boost your Testosterone levels and stimulate beard growth.
  • Exercise, strength training, cardio and some strength training several times per week to build muscle mass. The increase in muscle indirectly increases the amount of testosterone hormone in men, helping to grow beards.
  • Increase your Vitamin D intake by taking a vitamin supplement. Under Vietnamese conditions, men should spend more time outdoors.
  • Eat a full range of nutrients, especially during puberty. That gives the body the ingredients to produce hormones.

  • Moisturizing facial skin to stimulate pores and keep skin healthy.

Fight the itching sensation when the new beard grows

  • Many people decide to stop growing their beard because of this unpleasant itch. The itching will go away after a while, when the beard becomes softer.
  • Use a moisturizer or natural beard oil on your face, to soften your beard and reduce itching.
  • Everyone's beard growth rate is different. Some people need more time, while for others, it only takes from morning to night for a stubble to grow. For some people, beard growth takes only 2-3 weeks, but it can take up to many months for others.

Beard cleaning

  • Beards actually need to be cleaned every day. Sweat, dust, and even food debris can get caught in the beard. If not cleaned, the beard area will be itchy and uncomfortable.
  • Wash your beard in the shower with warm water and soap. You can also use shampoo or a special beard shampoo that won't irritate your skin.

4. Beard Growth Medicines

A beard growth pill is a drug that can help stimulate hair or beard growth. The main ingredient in beard growth pills is Minoxidil. This active ingredient has been scientifically proven and FDA approved to treat male pattern baldness and hair loss.

4.1 History

Minoxidil beard growth drug is a product of the pharmaceutical company Pfizer, invented in 1950. It was originally intended to be used to treat peptic ulcers. Some time later, the company turned research to become a drug to treat high blood pressure. During the course of the study, however, Charles A. Chidsey MD, Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, discovered that a side effect of Minoxidil is hair growth, beard, and hair growth.

Then in August 1988, the drug was introduced to treat male pattern baldness. In 1991, it was approved for use by women. Currently, this is a drug approved by the FDA as a specific drug for androgenic alopecia.

4.2 Mechanism

  • Minoxidil currently appears on the market in versions of 2%, 5%, and 10%.
  • Medicines are usually made in the form of a cream or a liquid that is applied directly to the skin. The part of the drug will stimulate hair growth by dilating the microvessels in the hair follicles. As a result, more blood flows to the hair follicles.
  • Minoxidil's current mechanism of beard growth is not fully understood. In theory, they open up the K+ channel, leading to a hyperpolarization of the cell membrane. The K+ channel, which dilates blood vessels more, allows more blood, oxygen, and nutrients to reach the hair follicles. This could mean that the telogen cysts are shed and are replaced by the anagen cysts.

4.3 Indication

In addition to being able to be used by people who want to grow a beard, people with baldness can also use it for treatment.

4.4 Usage and dosage

Before applying the medicine to your face, you need to shake the vial to distribute the active ingredient evenly in the solution. Take the medicine out of the cap and then use your hands to apply it to the areas you want. This way the medicine will dry quickly and won't irritate your skin.

Only use 2ml per day. Can be divided into several times of application, the minimum use time is 6 months.

Note when using

Some people have sensitive skin after using it easily cause skin irritation. For these subjects should stop using and change to another drug to avoid skin damage.

4.5 Other beard growth drugs

A number of other pharmaceutical companies are also "racing" in the process of growing beard and hair. The major pharmaceutical companies of Japan, Korea or China all have their own products. Under US law, patent rights in pharmaceuticals are protected for 10 years. To date, the recipe for making Minoxidil is popular. Other drugs more or less contain this chemical.

However, each brand will have different excipients. These excipients will be suitable for each different skin type. Therefore, whether it is a beard or hair growth product, you should test it on your hands and see if you are allergic before using it on your hair and face.

Whether more or less, men's beards carry the typical beauty of gender. A man with a beautiful and well-groomed beard will have his own charm. However, in addition to having a beard, you also need to take care of that beard so that it is hygienic and suitable for the community culture. In hot and humid Vietnam, a beard that is too dense can sometimes bring trouble if you do not clean your beard thoroughly every day.
