What is Orgametril (lynestrenol)?

Orgametril is an oral medication that contains lynestrenol. This is a synthetic progesterone that has the same biological properties as the body's hormone progesterone. Continuous use of the drug will inhibit ovulation as well as menstruation.

The drug acts by the following mechanism:

At the beginning of puberty, the ovaries release 1 egg each month. If fertilization does not occur, progesterone levels gradually decrease to a level that is not enough to maintain the lining of the uterus, causing them to burst and form menstruation. Lynestrenol is a synthetic progesterone that will increase progesterone levels, leading to an extra thick layer of lining that doesn't break, doesn't appear menstrual.

The drug is indicated when:

  • Menorrhagia, dysmenorrhea.
  • To delay menstruation, inhibit menstruation, ovulation.

How should I use Orgametril?

Depending on the medical condition, the doctor will have specific instructions for each case:

  • For irregular menstrual cycle, the dose is 1 tablet per day on days 14-25 of the cycle. The first day of your period is the first day of your period.
  • To treat menorrhagia or dysmenorrhea, the usual dose is 2 tablets / day for 10 days. Continue the next three cycles taking on days 14-25 of the cycle.
  • If you delay your period, take it 2 weeks before your period.

What are the side effects when using Orgametril?

Side effects depend on the dose and the patient's sensitivity. Possible side effects include:

  • Restlessness, depression, increased or decreased sex drive, nausea, abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, jaundice, increased sweating, pigmentation, itching, oily skin, acne, hair growth on face and body, vaginal bleeding mainly in the first 2 months, amenorrhea, changes in vaginal secretions.

Drug interactions when taken with Orgametril (lynestrenol)

  • Rifampicin or troleandomycin (medicine to treat bacterial infections).

  • Hydantoin, barbiturates and carbamazepine (epileptic drugs).

  • Aminoglutethimide (medicine to treat Cushing's syndrome).

  • Cyclosporin (drug treatment after organ transplantation).

  • Theophyllin (medicine for asthma, bronchitis and emphysema).

  • Beta-adrenergic blocker (medicine to treat high blood pressure or heart disease).

  • Insulin (antidiabetic medicine).

What to do if you miss a dose?

If you forget to take a dose within 24 hours, take it as soon as you remember. If you miss a dose more than 24 hours, skip that dose and continue taking your next dose at the usual time. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed dose.

How to store Orgametril (lynestrenol)

Store in a dry place, below 30oC, protected from light.
