1. What is Pivalone?

Pivalone is a nasal spray that is prepared in the form of a suspension, with the active ingredient being tixocortol pivalate. Pivalone is used in cases of inflammation and allergies in the nasopharyngeal area such as:

  • Allergic rhinitis
  • Vasomotor rhinitis
  • Acute and chronic congestive rhinitis

2. Instructions for taking Pivalone

Pivalone nasal spray

Shake the bottle before use. Spray 1-2 times in each nostril, 2-4 times a day.
User manual:

• Step 1: Shake the bottle vigorously before each use. Open the protective cover.

• Step 2: Test spray 4 to 5 times before the first spray and during the treatment.

• Step 3: Place the spray head vertically against the nose and press firmly on the valve. Close the protective cap after each use.

Note: Follow the steps and do not attempt to repair the spray head.

3. Contraindications of Pivalone 

  • Epistaxis
  • History of drug allergy
  • A fungal or viral infection occurs during treatment and a severe local superinfection occurs.

4. Notes when using Pivalone

  • Use the medicine after blowing your nose or clearing your nose.
  • In the event of signs of systemic infection, treatment with a systemic antibiotic should be considered.
  • There have been cases of epidural fat deposition, central serous chorioretinopathy, and pheochromocytoma that have been associated with the use of systemic corticosteroids. Long-term use of inhaled or topical corticosteroids may also be associated with these possible systemic effects.

5. Drug interactions when using Pivalone

There are currently no reports of drug interactions with tixocortol. However, you should tell your doctor if you are taking other medications.

6. Special subjects when taking drugs

  • Pregnant and lactating women

As a general rule, you should always consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking any medication if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. According to fertility toxicity studies in rats, tixocortol has no effect on fertility and is not teratogenic.

Toxicity to prenatal development includes a slightly increased risk of miscarriage after embryo implantation and decreased fetal weight. No adverse effects on postnatal development.

This medicine does not impair the ability to drive or use machines.

8. How to store medicine

  • Keep out of reach of CHILDREN
  • Store Pivalone below 30oC
  • HSD: 36 months from date of manufacture.
