1. What is Cerebrolysin?

Cerebrolysin is a peptide produced by enzymatic cleavage method, based on standardized biotechnology. The drug is produced from purified pig brain protein. Solution for injection or infusion, containing no lipids, proteins or other antigenic compounds.

The drug is packed into syringes with a volume of 5ml or 10ml. Each ml of solution contains 215.2mg peptide cerebrolysin concentrate and 2.1mg sodium hydroxide.

4.1 Dosage of the drug

Cerebrolysin brain tonic is packaged in tubes of 5ml, 10ml. If the dose of the drug is 5ml, it can be injected intramuscularly. Greater than 5ml (specifically 10ml) can be administered intravenously or by infusion.

Dosage

Cerebrolysin is injected once a day for a minimum of 10 to 20 days. This is considered a course of treatment. In mild cases can use from 1 to 5ml, severe cases from 10 to 30ml. The length of treatment, the dose depends on the age of the patient and the severity of the disease. Usually the course of treatment lasts about 3 to 4 weeks.

The course of treatment may be repeated several times depending on the clinical response of the patient. Between courses of treatment, the drug should be discontinued.

In severe cases, you should not stop taking the drug suddenly, but should continue the treatment by injecting the drug once a day and twice a day, for a period of about 4 weeks. From clinical trials, the manufacturer's suggested adult dosing guidelines are as follows:

  • Dementia: dose from 5 to 30 ml/24 hours.
  • After ischemic stroke or traumatic brain injury: 10 – 60 ml/24 hours.

4.2 How to take the medicine

Cerebrolysin brain tonic is administered by intramuscular or intravenous infusion. You should use the drug under medical supervision.

Cerebrolysin can be mixed in standard solutions (eg physiological saline, Ringer's solution, 5% glucose, dextran 40). Infusion rate: slow infusion over a minimum of 20 to 60 minutes.

5. Special subjects to pay attention to when using drugs

5.1 Pregnant and lactating women

Cerebrolysin brain tonic has been tested in animals without any evidence of teratogenic effects. Since there are no clinical data on the use of Cerebrolysin in pregnant patients, the drug should not be used during lactation unless the expected benefit outweighs the potential for harm.

5.2 Patients with renal failure

Patients with severe renal failure should not take Cerebrolysin.

11. How to store medicine
